True to form, sensational WAFA lived up to expectation by taming visiting Bolga All Stars in their week 12 fixture to maintain a firm grip at the top of the Ghana Premier League with 26 points.
All the fired-up academy lads needed were two delicate strikes over the stubborn newcomers at their favourite Sogakope home base to keep a point between them and their closest assailants, Aduana Stars, who thrashed Tema Youth 3-0 at Dormaa-Ahenkro last Sunday.
Coincidentally, giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko ended up jointly tied in third place with 19 points apiece, following a disappointing 1-1 home draw and a 0-1 loss against Elmina Sharks and Wa All Stars respectively.
Troubled Great Olympics, against all odds, managed to pick a point against Liberty Professionals at Dansoman, giving their newly-appointed Swedish coach, Tom Strand, a head start, while C.K. Akonnor also nearly salvaged a point for bottom-placed AshantiGold at the El-Wak Stadium, but for a delicate strike by Inter Allies’ Prince Baffoe.
At Cape Coast last Saturday, Nicholas Gyan scored his seventh goal of the season to lead the top scorers’ chart ahead of Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Sarfo. Incidentally, that powerful header turned out to be the only goal which separated Ricardo da Rocha’s side and a well-drilled Chelsea side in that tough encounter.
The week 12 games produced 12 goals — 11 at home and one away — with an avergae of 1.5 goals per match.
