A 19-year-old apprentice hair braider was found dead in front of an uncompleted building at Ejisu Jamasi in the Ashanti region early Saturday morning, and residents suspect a possible robbery and rape could be a factor.
Sophia Ama Ibrahim went to work on Friday but did not return home.
When family members went searching for her, they found her body lying in front of an uncompleted building, throwing the Jamasi community into a state of shock.
The police have since deposited the body at the Ejisu Government Hospital morgue, pending an autopsy and initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
No arrests have been made as of now and the Ejisu District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) S.S. Tenkorang has asked for cooperation from family, friends and residents of the area to help unravel the case.
A sister of the deceased, Ayishetu Ibrahim has told Graphic Online that Sophia completed Junior High School a year ago and decided to learn how to braid hair at Ejisu.
She said when they found her, there were no cuts on the body except that her under pants and slippers were left inside the uncompleted building.
A purse she carried was also found far away from where the body was lying containing only her Voter's ID Card.
