The police have established that a total of 151 houses were burnt in Good Friday’s attack in seven communities in the Chereponi area of the Northern region.
According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusif Mohammed Tanko, two people were injured by gun shots during the attack.
They are a five-year-old girl who was shot in the thigh and an 18-year-old man who was also shot in the neck. They have both been treated and discharged from hospital.
Speaking to Accra based radio station Joy FM, ASP Tanko said the residents have told the police that the attackers were Bimobas from neighbouring Togo.
They were said to have attacked around 4am, burnt the houses and fired gun shots.
ASP Tanko said the police were still on the ground investigating the cause of the incident and have not drawn a conclusion yet on who initiated the attack, why the attack and the number of the attackers involved.
He also said no arrests have been made as of now.
