Seven firefighters are currently receiving medical attention at St. Dominic Catholic Hospital in Akwatia and the Kade Government Hospital, following a vehicular accident at Adankrono.
The accident occurred while they were en route to an emergency at Otwenkwanta.
The fire department received an emergency call at approximately 08:37 hours Sunday morning, reporting a fuel tanker that had veered off the road at Otwenkwanta.
The team was dispatched to the scene at 08:38 hrs. However, while navigating a curve past the Gaso filling station, their fire engine was involved in an accident.
The cause of the accident remains uncertain, but initial investigations point to a potential steering lock issue. At the time of the accident, eight personnel were aboard the fire engine, bearing the registration number FS 438.
One individual managed to escape without injury.
Five team members were transported to St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, while the driver and the duty officer were taken to the Kade Government Hospital.
Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFO Jennifer Naa Yarley Quaye, visited both hospitals and the accident site to reassure concerned parties.
She confirmed that all personnel are in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
