The Institute of Directors–Ghana (IoD-Gh) has inaugurated five new council committees to strengthen its governance structures, enhance operational effectiveness, and advance its mission of promoting sound corporate governance practices across Ghana.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Accra, brought together members of the 11th Governing Council, the Vice President of the institution, Mr Michael Justice Ashong, the Chief Executive Officer of IoD, Dr Alfred Braimah, council members, committee members, and representatives of the media.
Delivering her opening remarks, the President of IoD-Gh and Chair of the 11th Governing Council, Mrs Mary Asare Yeboah, described the occasion as a pivotal moment in the Institute’s history, one that underscores its unwavering commitment to excellence and accountability in leadership.
“It is my distinct honour and pleasure to welcome you all to this significant occasion, which marks the official inauguration of our new council committees,” she said. “This event reinforces our dedication to the promotion of strong corporate governance for the benefit of all stakeholders.”
She extended her appreciation to members of the Council, the Nominations Committee, and all who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the inauguration possible. According to her, the formation of the committees represents a strategic step toward ensuring that IoD-Ghana remains at the forefront of governance development and capacity building.
The newly inaugurated committees include:
- Youth and SME Mentorship Committee, chaired by Mr Michael Justice, Vice President of IoD-Gh.
- Governance, Legal and Ethics Committee, chaired by Madam Nancy Emma, Esq.
- Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, chaired by Council Member Mr Okofo Dartey.
- Legal and Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Council Member Dr Sulemanu Kone.
- Technology, Research, Education and Membership Development Committee, chaired by Council Member Mr Kofi Asumadu Apenteng, who joined the ceremony virtually.
Madam Mary noted that the establishment of these committees reflects IoD-Ghana’s proactive approach to addressing complex governance issues and strengthening oversight functions within the Institute.
“These committees will serve as the engines of our oversight function providing rigorous analysis, sound recommendations, and strategic guidance in their respective areas,” she stated. “The Council reposes immense confidence in the abilities and expertise of each committee member to carry out their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.”
She further encouraged committee members to approach their work with collaboration, integrity, and a shared commitment to the Institute’s vision.
“We will work together as a united team, remembering always that the Institute’s interests come first, above any personal considerations,” she said. “I am confident that, together, we will overcome challenges and build an institution whose service to its stakeholders and the nation will remain strong and enduring.”
Following the President’s address, the chairs and members of each committee took their respective oaths of office, pledging to uphold the values of professionalism, transparency, and ethical leadership that underpin IoD-Ghana’s operations.
The event also featured the presentation of the committees’ terms of reference, highlighting their key mandates and operational frameworks. Each committee will be expected to provide strategic guidance and actionable recommendations to support the Institute’s mission of promoting effective governance across both public and private sectors.
Looking Ahead
With the committees now inaugurated, IoD-Ghana is set to embark on a renewed drive to deepen governance advocacy, professional development, and ethical leadership among directors nationwide. The committees are expected to engage with key industry players, develop training frameworks, and spearhead initiatives that align with the Institute’s vision of transforming corporate leadership in Ghana.
Their collective work, according to the Council, will ensure that IoD-Ghana continues to be a leading voice in advancing governance excellence, institutional accountability, and sustainable business practices for the benefit of society at large.
