On October 6th, Ghana’s new Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to Russia, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah held his maiden meeting with members of staff of the Mission and shared his initial diplomatic aspirations, further emphasised that it was an opportunity, together as a team, to pursue the Ghana-Russia bilateral relations under the administration of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
He, at the beginning, conveyed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the staff at Jubilee House, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the people of Ghana.
Dr. Jehu-Appiah engaged the staff in a substantive exchange of views on a range of the current bilateral issues, emphasised key areas for development of Ghana-Russia collaboration, including deepening political dialogue in order to enhance mutual understanding, and strengthening economic cooperation within the frameworks already created during the first and second Russia-Africa Summits.
As Head of Mission, the Ambassador clearly articulated his compelling objective for elevating, to an appreciable level, the trajectory of bilateral relations between Ghana and host country which has in the past revolved around political relations and mutual respect.
During the meeting, Dr. Jehu-Appiah further noted that his tasks includes working in concert with the Russian investors to anchor President Mahama’s Special Initiative on Industrialization to energy security under the Big Push Agenda and by extension the smooth implementation of the 24- hour economy.
He, therefore, urged members of staff to cooperate exceedingly well to enable the Mission realise the President’s vision and also unlock new opportunities for cooperation and the collective good of Ghana and Russia.
In conclusion, Ambassador Jehu-Appiah highlighted his desire to promote cultural understanding and people-to-people connections, recognising the role of education, arts, and tourism in fostering lasting relations between Ghana and host country.
Ambassador Jehu-Appiah is a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has built widely documented reputable political career, and held several different positions including Chairman of the Health Commission in 2024 until his appointment as an Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
