The Asante Kingdom is mourning following the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, at the age of 98.
According to sources, the revered queen mother, who was the biological sister of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, died in the early hours of Thursday August 7, 2025.
Her death was formally communicated by the Asantehene during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, according to a statement from the Oyoko Royal Family.
The one-week observation of her passing is scheduled for Thursday August 21.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the 14th Asantehemaa and ascended to the role in 2020, following the passing of her mother and predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
Born Nana Ama Konadu, she served with distinction and was deeply admired for her wisdom, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of Asante culture and customs.
Throughout her reign, she was a steady and influential presence at the Manhyia Palace, playing a vital role in guiding Asanteman and offering counsel to the Asantehene. Her leadership was seen as a symbol of unity and continuity within the royal household and the broader Asante community.
The Manhyia Palace is expected to issue an official announcement to the general public in the coming days, once all traditional rites and protocols related to royal deaths have been observed.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in accordance with Asante customs.
