The MTN Ghana Foundation has donated over 300 pints of blood to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) as part of its annual “Save a Life” blood donation campaign, aimed at replenishing blood banks nationwide.
The exercise, held on National Chocolate Day in collaboration with TTH’s blood bank unit, sought to mobilise 6,110 units of blood for the National Blood Service and major hospitals across the country.
Students and teachers from Tamale Senior High School and the Northern School of Business actively participated in the exercise, demonstrating patriotism by donating blood to support patients in need. Basic health checks and counseling were conducted to ensure the safety of donors before the procedure.
Speaking at the event, Principal Blood Donor Organiser at TTH, Madam Rashidatu Sulemana, commended MTN Ghana for its consistent support, noting the significant impact on children under five with malaria and pregnant women requiring urgent blood transfusions.
She urged the public to embrace voluntary blood donation to help sustain healthcare delivery.
Northern Regional Area Sales Manager of MTN Ghana, Collins Agyei, highlighted that the “Save a Life” initiative, launched in 2011, was a response to a call from the National Blood Bank.
He noted that the campaign, conducted nationwide, has helped reduce mortality rates by ensuring hospitals have sufficient blood supplies.
He reaffirmed MTN Foundation’s commitment to partnering with institutions to sustain the initiative, encouraging more citizens, particularly the youth, to contribute to saving lives through blood donation.
