Kassim Mingle-Ocansey, Nations FC’s Head Coach, has set his eyes on winning his first Ghana Premier League title as a coach and for the club.
Nations are a step away from earning their first top flight title, as they sit atop the log with 60 points, three ahead of second-place Gold Stars after 32 league games.
Kasim Mingle, in an interview with Akoma FM, is pleased with his team’s success so far, as they are atop the table after only two seasons in the top tier league.
”I’m quite delighted with what we’ve accomplished so far, we started somewhere, and this is our second season in the Premier League, and we’re currently in first place, so I have to be pleased.”
The former Bechem United coach has disclosed that his former team, who came near to winning the GPL title multiple times, were not interested in the trophy, but the story is different at Nations FC, and he hopes to do that for the first time as a coach.
“I worked at Bechem, and we came near several times, but they (Bechem Utd) were not interested in winning the league, however here (at Nations), they are interested, and they want to go for the ultimate, so I am also prepared.”
To keep their title hopes alive, Kasim Mingle said they would resist complacency and take the remaining games one after the other as the title race is still open.
“We will not allow complacency to creep into our team, we will focus and compete until the last game to prove that we are actually champions.”
“The race is still open, and we are focused on whatever we are doing. We have been psyching the players whenever there is a game, and we are taking the remaining matches one after the other, first on Basake and then on Heart of Lions.” He added.
Nations’ next two games will be against Basake Holy Stars and the Heart of Lions. They will first go to Holy Stars in week 33 on June 1, followed by a week later hosting Heart of Lions in the season’s final game.
To become league winners for the first time after two seasons, Nations FC would need to either win all of their matches or avoid defeat and win one of their remaining games.
