Hearts of Oak secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium, thanks to a first-half strike from midfielder Raphael Amponsah.
The win marked a crucial result for under-pressure coach Aboubakar Ouattara and ended a four-match winless streak for the Phobians.
Amponsah’s powerful long-range effort proved to be the match-winner in a tight and physical encounter.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who returned to the post for the first time after impressing for the Black Stars, made several crucial saves to deny Medeama and preserve the lead.
Despite dominating possession and registering 14 shots, Medeama’s wastefulness in front of goal ultimately cost them. The Tarkwa based club managed only four shots on target and failed to capitalize on their numerous chances.
The visitors were more enterprising in attack, but Hearts’ defense held firm, with Asare making key interventions to keep his team ahead.
The second half was marked by a heated exchange, with both teams having a player sent off.
However, Hearts showed character and determination to see out the win, effectively managing the game after taking the lead.
The victory offers a timely boost for the team, who remain in the top four on the league table, just six points behind the summit.
For Medeama, the loss sees them slip to seventh place, as their inconsistent form continues to hinder their progress. Their inability to convert chances into goals ultimately denied them a share of the points.
The win is a significant result for Hearts, who also recorded their first clean in their last five matches.
The victory will give the Phobians the much-needed momentum as they look to improve their attacking play and challenge for the league title.
