The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has given the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service up to the end of April to implement the revised conditions of service or risk disturbance on the labour front.
According to the Association, the delay in getting the conditions of service implemented has triggered discontent and simmering agitations among over 300,000 teachers nationwide.
General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Tanko Musah who interacted with 3news’ labour affairs correspondent urged the duty bearers to act quickly.
“We have informed the Ministry of Jobs, Labour and Employment, that we have given them one month to solve all these problems because failure to do so in the month of May they won’t have it easy with us,” he cautioned on April 2
Mr Musah said, “I have been to all the regions and the teachers are not happy and therefore when I came back, I had to write to the Minister of Education, and we are hoping and expecting that all these outstanding business, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu will make sure that it is done.”
The General Secretary also pleaded with the National Labour Commission not to wait for the industrial front to be disturbed before intervening.
“We are hoping that the National Labour Commission will not wait so when we are getting to the time they will come and tell us that we should go to court and all that. To the Labour Commission, the time to act is now,” he said.
