Businessman and philanthropist, Emmanuel Aboagye (Aboagye Contractor) has presented GH?500,000 to support the Adum Railways Market fire victims in Kumasi.
He made the donation after touring the burnt portion of the market to offer words of encouragement to the victims.
On March 20, 2025, a portion of the Adum Railways Market in Kumasi was engulfed by a raging fire, destroying goods worth millions of cedis. The cause of this fire disaster remains unknown, leaving victims stranded in the market as they look to the government and philanthropists for support in rebuilding.
Based on the plight of the victims, Aboagye Contractor has presented GH?500,000 to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, as part of his support for the victims.
“I would first like to thank the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and God for giving us a humble and hardworking Minister who cares about the less privileged, particularly the victims of the Adum Railway Market fire. I’m aware of the President’s visit to the scene to offer words of comfort and other support.
“I’m a native of Kumasi, and I acknowledge your role in the growth of the economy. My wife and I have a charity foundation that supports the less privileged, provided their needs are within our financial means.
“So, when the Regional Minister approached me for assistance, we saw this as our collective responsibility and assured him that we would be there to support our brothers and sisters in their time of need. So, we are here to donate GH?500,000 to support the victims through the Minister,” he said with a cheerful face.
He appealed to Ghanaian business community to come to the aid of the victims and help them recover from their losses. “I further call on the business community to also come on board to support our struggling sisters and brothers financially and psychologically to enable them to restart their businesses. I believe your presence here will strengthen them during this critical moment and help them remain stable. What I can say at the moment is that may the Lord comfort you all so you can recover from this great loss,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who received the money on behalf of the victims, expressed his appreciation. “Our brother, Aboagye Contractor, who is based in Accra, came to my office and made a donation of GH?500,000. I told him that we should come here so he could share some words of encouragement with you, the victims.
“I believe hearing from him will provide psychological support during this difficult time. So, on behalf of the traders, I want to thank you for your support,” he said.
He assured the affected victims of government support to help them restart their businesses. “Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the landlord, is currently out of the country. Therefore, the rebuilding of the market cannot start now. However, the government will take the necessary steps when he returns in the interest of the affected traders,” he stated.
