Kotoko are 90 minutes away from reaching and potentially clinching the MTN FA Cup following their 2-1 quarter-final victory over True Democracy on Sunday.
Saaka Dauda put the Porcupine Warriors ahead after 12 minutes before they were pegged back by True Democracy in the second half.
However, a late Kwame Opoku strike ensured that the Porcupine Warriors walked away with a crucial win, boosting their chances of clinching the FA Cup for the first time in eight seasons.
Kotoko have yet to win the trophy since defeating fierce rivals Accra Hearts of Oak 3-1 in 2017.
The Porcupine Warriors, who are the second best performing side in the competition’s history with nine trophies, are in pole position to close the gap on record holders Hearts of Oak, who have 11 trophies.
A strong performance at the weekend made their intentions clear, adding gloss to what is set to be a league and cup double for Kotoko.
Kotoko hold a one point advantage over second-placed Bibiani GoldStars in the Ghana Premier League and are set to face Berekum Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final.
Reflecting on his team’s FA Cup victory over True Democracy, Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum expressed cautious optimism despite the FA Cup title being among the club’s top most priorities.
“The aim of every coach is to win trophies; that’s the aim of every coach,” he said.
“The aim of every player is to win trophies so that one day you can be remembered for. To me, we have to take it game by game. We’ve not gone to the semis. We are going to play against Berekum Chelsea. We just have to switch our attention to the league. When the time is due, about two weeks, we will redirect our attention to it. But i want to tell you we are working harder and harder,” he added.
Prosper Ogum is enjoying his best run in the FA Cup after previously exiting the competition in the Round of 64 and last 16.
