President John Mahama in the afternoon of Friday, March 21 visited victims of the fire outbreak at Adum in Kumasi.
The President was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.
He commiserated with the victims on their losses and directed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to offer assistance to them
Many shops at ‘Blue Light’, Adum in the Central Business Centre of Kumasi were on March 21 razed down to ashes by fire.
The fire, whose cause is still under investigations, affected properties and wares worth millions of Ghana Cedis.
Some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage wares. They threw caution to the wind despite warnings from the police and firefighters to stay away
A shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.
“The fire fighters have not done enough to kill this fire” a distraught shop owner tells TV3’s Evans-Nkum.
