On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the Vola Regional Minister James Gunu hosted a delegation from the Ghana AIDS Commission, led by Volta Regional Technical Coordinator Mary Naa Ashley Anyoni, and the Coalition of NGOs in Health, led by Regional Chairman Rev. Gershon Kwame Osei.
They provided key updates on HIV/AIDS data in the Region and shared insights on their activities and challenges.
They highlighted financial constraints and difficulties in accessing some communities, yet remain committed to public sensitization and advocacy.
“I sincerely appreciate their efforts and reaffirm that health remains a top priority. I encouraged them to continue their great work and emphasized the need for stronger awareness programs, especially in Senior High Schools, through the formation of HIV/AIDS awareness clubs,” the Regional Minister wrote on his Facebook page.
Mr Gunu also welcomed a delegation from the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), led by Regional President Klu Elikplim, who paid a courtesy call on me to discuss key challenges affecting persons with disabilities in the Region.

They raised concerns about the delayed construction of a promised orthopedic center by KOFIH, the lack of accessibility in public buildings such as VRCC, Social Welfare and Births and Deaths offices, and the need for sign language interpreters in hospitals to assist individuals with hearing disabilities.
“I assured them of my commitment to taking the necessary measures to address these challenges because disability is a reality that can affect any of us at any time.
“I also pledged to support them with wheelchairs, white canes, crutches, and other essential aids, and I will ensure that the District Common Fund allocated to persons with disabilities reaches them as intended,” he wrote.
