Two people have been confirmed dead in separate galamsey pits at Karlo in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
This brings the number of galamsey pit deaths to five in the past two months.
The victims identified as Abaawa Mary, 38, and Money Fresh 32, were all found dead in separate abandoned galamsey pits.
Reports say, one of the victims, Money Fresh, who was an illegal miner, went to wash down after work and, unfortunately, slipped and fell into the galamsey pit. Sources around his incident indicates that the victim was allegedly under the influence of drugs.
Also, Abaawa Mary, went to fetch water from the abandoned galamsey pit to irrigate her vegetable farm. While fetching the water, she also slipped and drowned.
Sources indicated that Abaawa Mary hailed from Dadieso, the district capital of Suaman District, but Money Fresh’s hometown remains unknown to them.
The Assemblyman for Karlo electoral area, Eric Armah, speaking to the media confirmed that the police were informed, and the bodies had been taken to the mortuary.
He was not happy about the activities of the illegal miners in the area, adding that the miners have dug out many pits indiscriminately in the communities.
He urged the authorities to intervene.
