
The government has announced significant allocations across various sectors in the 2025 Budget, aimed at addressing pressing national needs, supporting vulnerable communities, and stimulating economic growth.
Presenting the budget in Parliament, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson outlined the government’s priorities, covering education, health, disaster relief, infrastructure, and economic empowerment programmes.
“Mr. Speaker, we will provide a Cedi equivalent of US$279 million as a revolving fund for the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) to be able to purchase and export at least **3 tonnes of gold per week from small-scale miners,” Dr. Forson announced, noting that the initiative will boost the small-scale mining sector and increase Ghana’s gold exports.
Below are the key budget allocations for 2025
- GH¢13.85 billion — Allocation for the Big Push Programme, aimed at large-scale infrastructure and development projects.
- GH¢499.8 million — For the No-Academic-Fee policy for first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
- GH¢292.4 million — For the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools.
- GH¢242.5 million — To support victims of the Akosombo dam spillage disaster.
- GH¢200 million — To assist victims of tidal wave disasters in Ketu South and surrounding areas.
- GH¢3.5 billion — For the Free Secondary Education Programme to ensure access to quality education.
- GH¢564.6 million — For comprehensive provision of free curricula-based textbooks for schools.
- GH¢1.788 billion — Allocation to sustain the School Feeding Programme for children in public basic schools.
- GH¢145.5 million — For the Capitation Grant to support basic education.
- GH¢203 million — For the payment of teacher trainee allowances.
- GH¢480 million — For the payment of nursing trainee allowances.
- GH¢9.93 billion — For the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to improve access to healthcare.
- GH¢2.81 billion — Allocation to the Ghana Road Fund for maintenance and construction of roads.
- GH¢7.51 billion — For the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to promote local development.
- GH¢1.5 billion — Allocation for Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) to enhance agricultural productivity.
- GH¢51.3 million — As seed money for establishing the Women’s Development Bank to empower women entrepreneurs.
- GH¢300 million — For the National Apprenticeship Programme to equip youth with vocational skills.
- GH¢100 million — For the ‘Adwumawura’ Programme, aimed at job creation.
- GH¢100 million — For the National Coders Programme to boost digital skills and IT training.
These allocations reflect the government’s effort to address economic challenges, promote education and health, and support vulnerable groups, while also focusing on economic transformation and employment creation.
