Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara has downplayed his side’s title credentials despite the Phobians sitting atop of the Ghana Premier League ahead of Sunday’s round of games.
Hearts of Oak marked their return to Ghana Premier League action with a comfortable 2-0 win over Young Apostles on Saturday night.
Goals from Michael Awuah and Hamza Issah in either half set the Phobians to victory.
The win means the Phobians are unbeaten in their last seven league games in the league, winning five and drawing two.
With 36 points from 20 league games, Hearts of Oak leapfrogged fierce rivals Asante Kotoko into first place.
Despite the Phobians showing incredible form in their last seven games, coach Ouattara has avoided getting drawn into title talks at this stage of the season.
“As to whether we will win the league, I can only reply you on June 8. Our next game is against Dreams FC and that is an even tougher game,” he said after the game.
Hearts of Oak are yet to win the league since the 2020/21 season.
If results go the way of their closest competitors – Kotoko, Bibiani GoldStars, and Heart of Lions – the Phobians may end the weekend in fourth place, a point behind the league leaders.
