Another week and another discussion about Mohamed Salah’s attacking attributes and goalscoring impetus.
The Egyptian scored a brace in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday to send the Reds 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Liverpool have one hand on the Premier League title with their coronation inevitable.
With nine games to end the season, the Reds need six wins from their remaining games to clinch a second Premier League title and a record-equalling 20th in English top flight history.
One man who has single-handedly carried Liverpool to the point of achieving this great feat is Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.
Once again, on Saturday, he moved further up the Premier League scoring charts with a brace from the spot, joining Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero on 184 goals.
Salah is now a goal away from becoming the highest scoring international player in the history of the league.
His 184 goals puts him three behind Andrew Cole’s 187, 24 behind third placed Wayne Rooney and 34 behind Harry Kane in second.
With Mohamed Salah’s future up in the air, as his current contract runs out in the summer, Alan Shearer’s 260 goals seems a mile away and looks safe at the moment.
If the Egyptian decides to extend his contract with Liverpool, Shearer will be looking over his shoulder given how consistent Salah has been since joining Liverpool in 2017.
Not only did Salah move up the Premier League scoring charts, he became the Liverpool player with the most goal contributions (44) in a single season, surpassing Luis Suarez’s previous tally of 43.
His brace at Anfield also meant that, save Thierry Henry (114) and Sergio Aguero (106) no player in the history of the league has scored more goals at a single ground than his 102.
In Liverpool’s ranks, Salah moved past Gordon Hodgson’s 241 goals and is now third in the all-time scoring charts, with only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) with more goals than his 242.
Currently on 44-goal involvements in the Premier League, a record in a 38-game season, Salah could further pull clear of Haaland and Thierry Henry – who also recorded 44-goal involvements – before the end of the season.
