The Ghana Premier League returns this weekend after a month-long break, with exciting fixtures lined up in Week 23.
Hearts of Oak vs. Young Apostles
Hearts of Oak take on Young Apostles at the University of Ghana Stadium, a venue that was previously deemed unfit but has now been approved following discussions with the Club Licensing Board.
The Phobians come into this fixture in strong form, extending their unbeaten run to six matches with a 1-0 win over Heart of Lions on January 31. Their defensive solidity has been a key factor, keeping four consecutive clean sheets. Adding to their confidence, Hearts secured a 2-1 away victory against Young Apostles in October 2024.
However, Young Apostles are also in good shape, winning back-to-back games against Nations FC and Nsoatreman. They remain unbeaten in their last four matches, though their defence has shown vulnerability, conceding in their last three away fixtures.
Asante Kotoko vs. Legon Cities
Asante Kotoko return to the Baba Yara Stadium to face Legon Cities, with added motivation to honour their late supporter, Nana Pooley.
Legon Cities won the reverse fixture 2-1 on October 30, 2024, and their recent meetings have been evenly contested. Since April 2022, both teams have claimed two wins each, with two games ending in draws. Kotoko have scored nine goals in those encounters, while Legon Cities have netted eight.
Kotoko will be eager to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman on February 2. Despite that setback, they have enjoyed a solid campaign, winning 10 of their 19 matches, drawing four, and losing five. The Porcupine Warriors have scored 21 goals (1.11 per match) while conceding just 13 (0.68 per match).
A closely fought battle is expected, but Kotoko will be determined to deliver a strong performance in memory of their departed fan.
