Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is high on confidence ahead of his first game as Ghana coach.
Kim Lars Bjorkegren was officially unveiled as the head coach of the Black Queens on February 14, taking the stead of erstwhile coach Nora Hauptle.
Kim Lars Bjorkegren is expected to lead Ghana to the summer’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON); a tournament Ghana has failed to participate in since 2018.
The road to Morocco’s continental showpiece begins with a friendly test against the hosts of the WAFCON, the Lionesses, in Casablanca on February 21.
Despite the weight of expectation in filling Nora Hauptle’s void and performing aptly at the WAFCON, the Swede is relishing the challenge.
“It is difficult to adapt 100% after a couple of trainings so, of course, we can’t expect them to understand everything in just a couple of session. But they are listening, they are doing their best,” he said.
“I’ve watched them in three four games. I will say it’s a good team, a really good team. In an away game, it’s going to be a tough game, especially for me as a new coach to get a result. A new group of players like i said a couple of trainings but there’s no reason to be talking about excuses. We will do everything we can to win the game,” he added.
The Black Queens are yet to win the WAFCON, coming close on three occasions with runners-up finishes in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
