New Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren was spotted at the Women’s FA Cup game between Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Rootz Sistaz at the Senchi Methodist Astro Turf on Saturday as he begins his scouting mission.
At his official unveiling on Friday, the Swede revealed he was yet to see local games in-person but assured he was soon going to be in attendance.
A day after making the proclamation, Kim Lars Bjorkegren was seen taking notes in Ampem Darkoa’s shocking 4-3 penalty shootout Women’s FA Cup defeat to Division One side Rootz Sistaz.
The coach’s desire to integrate talents from the youth setup into the senior team does not come as a surprise after he was full of praise for Ghana’s younger teams at his unveiling.
“From what I’ve seen from the younger teams like the U17 for example, there are so many really great players. But of course if you’re 16, 17, 18 years, you may be not ready today. But in a couple of years, they’ll be great; I promise you,” he said.
“As long as they work hard together with their coaches and teammates in the club teams and they take opportunity every time they have the chance to do something for the national team, then the future will be great,” he added.
The Black Queens are gearing up for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and are headed to Casablanca for a preparatory game against Morocco on February 21.
Ghana will participate in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the summer for the first time in seven years.
