We are not above criticism; hold us accountable – Prez’s Spokesperson urges journalists, CSOs

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State designate for Government Communications, has underscored the significance of criticism in building a better Ghana.

“Criticism is vital for progress. If the framers of the Constitution anticipated only praise, there would be no need to guarantee the right to free speech,” he said on TV3’s KeyPoints on January 25.

Kwakye Ofosu urged journalists, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and ordinary citizens to speak up and scrutinize government actions without fear.

“We are not above criticism. It is through your feedback that we improve,” he stated.

As Ghana continues to strengthen its democracy, the minister’s remarks serve as a timely reminder that the right to free expression is the foundation of accountability and good governance

Mr Ofosu has called on journalists and civil society organizations to shift their focus from post-administration audits to real-time scrutiny of government actions.

“Do not wait for us to leave power before opening the books. Hold us accountable today,” Kwakye Ofosu urged.

His statement emphasizes the importance of timely oversight in ensuring that governments remain transparent and efficient.

By addressing inefficiencies in the present, citizens can avoid prolonged damage or unaddressed lapses.

As Ghana’s democracy evolves, the minister’s call serves as a clarion reminder: accountability is not just a retrospective exercise; it is a daily duty.
