A tense situation unfolded in Ejura early this morning after a mob attacked the local police station, setting it ablaze.
The incident stemmed from the death of a suspect in police custody.
The suspect, arrested on suspicion of theft on Friday evening, complained of illness while in detention. He was immediately transported to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical attention, where he tragically passed away.
Following the news of his death, a group of community members descended upon the police station, launching a violent attack. The station was set ablaze, and the mob forcibly removed the deceased’s body from the hospital.
Swift action by the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the military, helped to quell the unrest and restore order.
Community leaders played a crucial role in de-escalating the situation. The Ghana National Fire Service also responded promptly to extinguish the fire at the police station.
The incident has sparked concern within the community, and investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
