The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
This decision follows discrepancies identified in the results from three outstanding polling stations after the collation process for 367 polling stations was completed.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC in an interview with the media, clarified that two results from the remaining three polling stations were valid, but one result was rejected outright. This rejection stemmed from the use of incorrect training sheets during the polling process.
According to the EC, the rejected result, however, involved 669 voters. If all of those votes were allocated to the trailing candidate, they would surpass the leading candidate, prompting the EC’s decision to hold a rerun at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station.
Dr. Quaicoe confirmed that the EC will report the situation to the commission, which will then determine the date of the rerun. He assured that the rerun would take place before the inauguration of the newly elected representatives.
The re-collation process for the Dome Kwabenya constituency has been fraught with confusion and disagreements between political parties. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have both raised concerns regarding the integrity of the results.
The EC had earlier suspended the re-collation of results in both the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies on December 21, citing the absence of pink sheets from political parties for certain polling stations.
