Pressure group Election Watch Ghana has warned the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) against setting up its own creature Data Compilation Center.
The pressure group insists the move is illegal as it is against the regulations guiding public elections in Ghana.
It said the Commission has planned to foist this on political parties at the next meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
These were contained in a statement issued by Election Watch Ghana on Tuesday, November 26.
“As citizens, we reject any attempts to circumvent the laws governing our electoral process,” the statement jointly signed by joint convenors Jude Balma and Mark Ewusi Arkoh said.
The group said by law it is only at polling centers and constituency collation centers that ballots are collated and counted.
Therefore, it described as unlawful and unacceptable the intentions of the EC to introduce a new center.
“Any attempts to introduce an unauthorized ‘Data Compilation Center’ will be a recipe for chaos, violence, and destruction. We demand that the EC adheres to the law and respects the democratic process.”
