Seven players (including goalkeepers) are in the running for October’s NASCO awards, while three coaches have also been shortlisted for the managerial award for their outstanding performances put up in October.
Four goalkeepers, Nations FC’s Kofi Mensah, Bibiani GoldStars’ Emmanuel Kobi, Heart of Lions’ Lawrence Osei, and Asante Kotoko’s Fredrick Asare, have been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Month accolade.
In the month under review, Kofi Mensah played four games and kept two clean sheets, alongside conceding two goals, while Emmanuel Kobi featured five times for Gold Stars, keeping three clean sheets and conceding two goals.
Asante Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Asare, kept three clean sheets and conceded three times, while Lawrence Osei conceded a single goal in addition to his three shutouts.
For the NASCO coach of the month, Bibiani Gold Stars’ table-topping coach, Frimpong Manso, is pitted against Nations FC’s Kassim Mingle Ocansey and Asante Kotoko’s Prosper Ogum.
A strong showing in October saw Gold Stars rack up three wins out of the five games they played, scoring six times and conceding twice, whereas Nations FC won twice, drew once, and lost once in their four games. Asante Kotoko’s coach, Ogum, also steered the Porcupine Warriors to three wins, a draw, and a loss in five games.
An influential member of Kotoko winning three out of their five games was forward Albert Amoah, who bagged four goals in those five games, earning him a place on the NASCO Player of the Month roster.
Nations FC’s sensational Faisal Charwetey, scorer of three goals in the month, was also nominated as Gold Stars’ Kelvin Oppong rounded off the nominations with his two goals in four games.
The winners are set to be announced in the forthcoming days.
