MTN Ghana has signed a $2million agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to become the headline sponsor of four national teams from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027.
The sponsorship will cover the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets for the next two years.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the MTN Head Office yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Stephen Blewett, said the sponsorship would deepen the bond between his organisation and the people of Ghana, the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the entire sports fraternity.
“MTN Ghana wants to see Ghana win the World Cup. That is our dream, our mission, and our commitment,” Mr Blewett stated.
He noted that through the renewed partnership with the GFA, they were determined to give the national teams every possible advantage: the resources, preparation, exposure, and unwavering support needed to achieve that dream.
“To the players, coaches, technical teams, and fans, MTN is with you. We will celebrate with you in victory and stand by you in moments of challenge because in football as in life, we rise together. So let us dream boldly,” he added.
In a speech read by Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah on behalf of the Chief Director of the Sports and Recreation Minister, Mr Kofi Adams, it described MTN Ghana as a long-standing supporter of football.
He stated that MTN had invested greatly in programmes aimed at impacting the lives of the public through sports, music, philanthropy, and other avenues.
“This is commendable and worthy of emulation by all corporate bodies in the country,” he mentioned.
The GFA President, Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, hailed the partnership which he indicated would go a long way to address the association’s biggest challenge.
“This investment by MTN will ensure our various national teams, including the Elite under 19 team have the best possible preparations, putting them in a competitive mood for major championships at the African and world stages,” he added.
