The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has requested a detailed roadmap for collation of the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency, from the Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr Yohuno made the formal request when the Police Management Board (POMAB) held an emergency meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), at the police headquarters, yesterday.
According to him, the provision of a detailed roadmap for collation of results would help improve coordination between security agencies and electoral officials, and also prevent dispute during the collation of results in the constituency.
“Before today’s meeting, representatives from the EC and a section of the POMAB met to discuss the way forward for Ablekuma North. The EC was represented by deputy chairman in charge of operations, Mr Samuel Tetteh, who expressed their readiness to complete the collation for the three outstanding polling stations in Ablekuma North and required police assistance for security,” Mr Yohuno said.
“In this regard, I will urge the EC to provide the NESTF with the roadmap with respect to date and place for the finalisation of collation.
The IGP assured the EC of the support of the NESTF through the collaboration with the various security agencies in enhancing security during the collation process.
“We assure them [EC] of the support of the NESTF full support. This support will involve engagements with key political stakeholders, including the EC, to ensure a shared understanding of the collation process,” Mr Yohuno said.
He said that members of the NESTF would act swiftly but not recklessly during the collation for the remaining three outstanding polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Mr Yohuno urged members of the NESTF to ensure that their actions during the collation process in the Ablekuma North constituency did not affect public trust.
Meanwhile, Mr Tetteh, said he was optimistic that the upcoming election process at Ablekuma North constituency would end well.
“In our latest letter to the IGP and the NESTF, a meeting was scheduled for today to discuss a roadmap to enable the commission to conclude the collation of results for the Ablekuma North constituency. We are hoping that today will bring an end to the issue,” he said.
