The legal troubles of Emmanuel Yeboah, who was recently remanded into Police custody by the Berekum Circuit Court over “charges of attempted murder and causing harm”, have taken a far more serious and tragic turn following the death of his victims.
The two victims, Yeboah’s own brother and sister-in-law, who sustained severe and multiple cutlass wounds during the brutal attack, have been confirmed dead by the Police after days of battling for their lives at a health facility in the Bono Region.
The suspect, Yeboah, was initially arraigned before the Berekum Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Mr. Osei Kofi Amoako, Esq., where the court ordered his remand into Police custody to enable investigators to conclude inquiries into what was then described as an attempted murder case.
However, a statement released by the Bono Regional Police Command and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah indicates that the victims had been pronounced dead by doctors – dramatically altering the complexion of the case and deepening the suspect’s legal woes.
According to the Police accounts, Emmanuel Yeboah was arrested on January 3, 2026, after law enforcement officers received a report of a vicious cutlass attack at a disputed cashew farm in the Berekum area.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly ambushed his brother and his brother’s wife while they were heading to the farmland, which has been at the centre of a long-standing ownership dispute within the family”.
Police statement says the suspect allegedly attacked the two victims, inflicting deep cutlass wounds that left them bleeding heavily and in critical condition. They were rushed to a nearby health facility, where they were admitted for emergency treatment.
The cutlass believed to have been used in the attack was retrieved from the scene and is currently being held by the Police as an exhibit to aid ongoing investigations, the statement indicated.
The deaths of the victims, which occurred while the suspect remained in custody awaiting his next court appearance, is most likely to change the narrative of the prosecution in the next court appearance.
Emmanuel Yeboah is expected to reappear before the Berekum Circuit Court on January 12, 2026. However, Police sources indicate that the docket is now being updated to reflect the new developments, as the charges are likely to be reviewed in light of the deaths.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah assured the public that the Police Service is committed to ensuring justice for the deceased and bringing the matter to a lawful conclusion, while urging the public to resolve land and property disputes through peaceful and legal means rather than violence.
