The Deputy Public Affairs Manager of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Mr. Benjamin Teye Larweh, has urged Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to use their platforms to promote initiatives that enhance local value addition in the cocoa sector.
Mr. Larweh made the call during a courtesy visit to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Agona West, Eric Gyamfi, as part of COCOBOD’s ongoing stakeholder engagement programme in the Central Region.
The exercise forms part of the Board’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with local authorities and key partners, while gathering feedback to support the sustainable growth of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
Mr. Larweh explained that although various national efforts are underway to boost domestic processing and consumption of cocoa, intensified advocacy at the local level remains crucial.
“Promoting local value addition is a shared responsibility.
The more we highlight the importance of processing and consumption at the community level, the stronger our collective impact will be,” he stated.
Eric Gyamfi commended COCOBOD for the engagement, describing it as insightful and timely. He praised the team for educating the Assembly on the modalities for determining cocoa producer prices, adding that the information would guide their interactions with farmers and other stakeholders.
The MCE further pledged to share the insights with local businesses and community leaders to deepen understanding and support for COCOBOD’s programmes.
