A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of Emilia Acheampong, a 40-year-old businesswoman, after she failed to appear before the Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The case, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, involves charges of defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jacob Maalo Kuubal Esq., presented that the accused, during February 2025, obtained GH¢32,000.00 from a trader, Godfred Aboagye, under the pretext of securing a Luxembourg Visa and work permit.
Per the facts before the court, Mr. Aboagye, a resident of Kasoa, came into contact with the accused through a TikTok advertisement, in which Acheampong claimed she could facilitate visa and work permit acquisition for individuals seeking to travel abroad.
Upon contacting her, Mr Aboagye was instructed to meet Acheampong in Spintex, Accra, where she assured him she could deliver the travel documents for the stated fee.
On February 10, 2025 Aboagye paid the full amount in cash and was issued a receipt. He also handed over his passport to Acheampong, who promised to complete the process within three months. However, the promised visa never materialised.
Following months of unfulfilled assurances, Aboagye reported the matter to the Regional CID in Accra.
Acheampong was subsequently arrested on August 27, 2025 and during interrogation, admitted to receiving the money.
She claimed she had handed the funds over to a third party, one Ohemeng Richmond, to assist with the visa process.
However, she failed to aid police efforts in locating or apprehending this individual.
After investigations concluded, Acheampong was formally charged and summoned to appear in court. Her failure to attend Wednesday’s proceedings led the court to issue a bench warrant for her immediate arrest.
She faces charges of Defrauding by False Pretence, an offense that carries serious legal consequences under Ghanaian law.
The case has been adjourned, and authorities are currently working to enforce the warrant.
