Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet beleives Ghana remains a prominent force in African football despite failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
For the first time in over two decades, the Black Stars will not feature in the AFCON tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco later this year after finishing the qualifiers at the bottom of its group.
Speaking to Adom TV in an interview, the Belgian coach emphasised that occasional disappointments are part of the sport and should not overshadow Ghana’s storied history.
“I still believe Ghana is a giant in African football. It is not because you missed out of the AFCON that you are not a big nation. It happens sometimes,” Saintfiet stated.
The Black Stars, four-time AFCON champions, are currently in a rebuilding phase under coach Otto Addo, with their focus firmly on securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
