GFGF made the donation of the 10 skip refuse containers estimated at GHC230,000.00
Executive Secretary of GFGF, Abdel Razak Yakubu handed over the skip containers to the Municipal Chef Executive (MCE), Ebenezer Kobbinah.
MCE Kobinah who received the donation expressed the Assembly’s appreciation to the GFGF for the gesture.
He said the donation goes to affirm that the mining company was committed to environmental sustainability and deserved commendation for the gesture.
He said the impact of plastic waste on the environment was concerning and that all hands needed to be on the deck to fight the canker.
“We have seen the impact of plastic waste on our environment, and we all have to rise and nip it in the bud”.
It is as a result of this, MCE advocated for everyone to be on board to sustain the environment for the present and future generation.
He announced that, the Assembly had embarked on clean-up exercise every monthly as a means to fight the canker of plastic waste.
He assured the exercise would not be a nine-day wonder. He called on indigenes of the area to work together to reduce plastic waste pollution.
Alex Damptey, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Assembly Environmental Officer said ending plastic waste pollution should be a collective effort and not an individual one. This is because there is no way “we can achieve reducing plastic waste by individual effort”.
Sharing knowledge, contribution on the topic could also help in reducing waste pollution. That notwithstanding, he said, the Assembly has important role to play in ending or reducing plastic waste.
