The Evangelism Unit in partnership with School outreach Ministries of the Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate has organised a 2-day guidance and counselling seminar for final year Junior High school students in Obuasi.
About 3,000 students drawn from 60 public and private schools in Obuasi participated in the seminar to guide them on career paths and their related courses.
It is the second seminar the church and the municipality are jointly organising for BECE candidates in Obuasi, following the success of the previous edition.
Prophet David Kankam Beditor, Obuasi Area Head the Church of Pentecost disclosed that the seminar was aimed at guiding the students to make the right career choices as they take a giant step towards their academic pursuits.
He said it was the right impetus the children needed as they prepare towards their Basic Education Certificate Examination in a bid to avoid mistakes made by students previously.

Prophet Beditor emphasised that the church had a responsibility in shaping the lives of children, stressing that the Church of Pentecost was always committed through its school outreach ministry to provide the right guidance to children as they navigate through their career paths to become prominent members of the society.
The Area Head indicated that the church was also shaping the lives of the students to accept the word of God and live by it stressing that it was the only way they could harness their full potentials.
Mr. George Alfred Koomson, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education described the initiative as laudable and that it lends credence to the Church’s commitment to making the society better.
Mr. Koomson said the Guidance and Counselling seminar was a product of painstaking research by the directorate, which identified a gap in career choices and the capabilities of the students, hence the decision to team up with the Church of Pentecost to roll out the programme.
He advised parents to take interest in their children’s education and monitor them as they prepare to write their final Examination.
He admonished them to cooperate with the teachers and their wards when they choose the schools and courses for their children as they transition into Senior High School.
The Education Director expressed the view that in the world of endless possibilities and opportunities, it was important for the students to navigate their career paths with clarity, purpose and intentionality.
He calls for guidance and counselling to serve as a beacon of light, shaping them to make good choices in life.
