English-born Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong scored his first senior goal as Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 victory over struggling Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off at the City Ground on Saturday.
The 19-year-old defender rose highest to head home Chelsea’s opener in the 49th minute, marking a memorable moment in what was only his second league start for the club.
Reece James and Pedro Neto added two more goals to seal a dominant win for the visitors, who were without manager Enzo Maresca on the touchline due to a one-match suspension following his dismissal against Liverpool.
For Nottingham Forest, the defeat stretched their winless run in all competitions to eight matches which led to the sacking of manager Ange Postecoglou, 39 days after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.
Acheampong’s impressive display and milestone goal have drawn attention in Ghana, where the Football Association is exploring options to strengthen its 2026 FIFA World Cup-bound squad with dual-nationality players.
Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Acheampong has represented England at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels but remains eligible to switch allegiance to Ghana.
