Hohoe United marked their first-ever Ghana Premier League match at the Hohoe Sports Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Young Apostles on Sunday, as both sides shared the points in a lively contest.
The hosts gave their fans reason to cheer just three minutes into the second half when Ganiu Abass timed his run to perfection and turned home a low cross at the near post to register Hohoe’s first-ever Premier League goal on home soil.
But Young Apostles, who had lost their opening game, fought back and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when Clinton Opoku produced a sublime finish to level the scores. The goal secured their first point of the season after a difficult start to life in the top flight.
Despite an evenly contested match, both sides finishing with six shots apiece and possession split 50-50, Hohoe United will feel they missed a chance to secure a famous victory in front of their home supporters.
The result leaves the newly promoted Hohoe side still searching for their maiden league win, while Young Apostles will take encouragement from their resilience on the road.
Next up, Hohoe United travel to face Vision FC, while Young Apostles prepare to host Dreams FC in Dormaa.
