Ghanaian forward Benjamin Tetteh was the hero as his brace powered NK Maribor to a thrilling 3â2 win over Aluminij in Slovenia’s PrvaLiga.
The result of the match played on Friday, September 19, lifted Maribor to second place on the table after nine matches.
Tetteh, 28, struck twice in the first and second halves to underline his growing influence at the club.
After Gregor SikoÅ¡ek had opened the scoring in the 26th minute, Tetteh doubled Maribor’s advantage 10 minutes later with a composed finish.
He then restored Maribor’s two-goal cushion in the 53rd minute after Aluminij had briefly threatened to claw their way back into the game through an early penalty from Saitoski.
Aluminij’s Bloudek scored in the 62nd minute to set up a tense finale, but Maribor held on for their fifth league win of the season.
The Ghana international’s two goals took his tally to seven in nine league appearances this season, adding to his three assists.
The win moves Maribor to 17 points, five behind leaders Celje, as they continue their push for a return to the top of Slovenian football.
