The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially kicked off the countdown to Africa’s premier football competition, announcing on Friday that just 100 days remain until the start of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
For the first time in 37 years, Morocco will host the finals, welcoming 24 teams and millions of fans from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. Matches will unfold across six cities - Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir - with nine stadiums set to stage the continent’s most prestigious football spectacle.
The 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire set unprecedented benchmarks, attracting more than 1.5 billion television viewers and generating over 2.4 billion digital streams.
Organisers and fans alike expect Morocco 2025 to surpass those records, reaffirming AFCON’s growing global appeal.
Reigning champions Cote d'Ivoire will defend their crown in the 35th edition of a tournament that dates back to 1957, facing a strong challenge from the rest of Africa’s elite.
To mark the 100-day milestone, CAF unveiled a commemorative poster, further heightening anticipation.
Morocco has recently demonstrated its capacity to stage world-class tournaments, successfully hosting the 2024 Women’s AFCON and the 2025 U-17 AFCON.
The Kingdom is also preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, reinforcing its emergence as a global football hub.
