Hearts of Oak have been dealt a heavy blow after FIFA imposed a three-transfer window registration ban on the club for failing to settle an outstanding debt owed to their former Technical Director, Rene Hiddink.
According to a letter from FIFA’s Legal and Compliance Division dated 21 August 2025, the Phobians were directed to pay USD 150,000 to Hiddink within 90 days following a ruling under reference FPSD-17518.
The club’s inability to comply with the order has now triggered a disciplinary sanction that prevents them from registering new players, both domestically and internationally.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been instructed to enforce the ban at the national level.
The sanction represents a serious setback for Hearts, who have been attempting to rebuild their squad and restore their status as one of Ghana’s most dominant clubs.
With the ban in place, the team cannot bring in reinforcements, a situation that could severely impact their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
The decision reflects FIFA's uncompromising stance on financial discipline, sending a warning to clubs globally that failure to honour contractual obligations will carry severe consequences.
Hearts' only path to lifting the ban is to fully pay the USD150,000 owed. The urgency now falls on the club’s leadership to mobilise funds quickly, as prolonged restrictions could worsen their struggles on and off the pitch.
