Hearts of Oak coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has explained that his decision to leave out several senior players in their GHALCA Top 4 win over Heart of Lions was based on a strategy to carefully manage player minutes at this stage of the season.
The Phobians secured a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night at the University of Ghana Stadium, completing back-to-back wins over Lions in just three days after also beating them 2-0 in the Homowo Cup on Sunday.
Dramani made wholesale changes to his lineup, with captain Benjamin Asare, Kelvin Osei Asibey, Hamzah Issah and other regular starters all rested.
“I think that in the period we are in, we need to share game minutes across the squad. And it is important not to dose players beyond the range they have reached,” Dramani said.
“We have not reached a level where we can go deep for 90 minutes. Sometimes we are forced to push players beyond those minutes. I think that scientifically it’s unacceptable.”
The only goal of the match came before halftime when Ransford Mensah’s free kick deflected into the net. Hearts next face Bibiani GoldStars on Friday, while Lions play Asante Kotoko.
