Bismark Ampofo’s dismissal proved a turning point as FC Inter Turku fell 2-1 to KuPS in their Veikkausliiga opener at Väre Areena on Sunday.
The match was cagey in the first half, with both sides struggling to find rhythm. The 3,314 fans had to wait until the 58th minute for the breakthrough when Antoin Essomba finished from close range after Jean Botué’s smart assist, giving Inter Turku a surprise lead.
But just three minutes later, Inter’s afternoon unraveled. Ampofo, already on a booking, mistimed a tackle and was shown a second yellow card, leaving his team with ten men.
KuPS seized control with the extra space. Otto Ruoppi equalized in the 79th minute, rising highest to head in from Jaakko Oksanen’s corner. The pressure mounted, and with five minutes left, Samuel Pasanen pounced in front of goal to seal the comeback for the hosts.
Despite battling until the end, Inter could not recover. They now shift focus to their next test against Ilves on August 23.
