Plymouth Argyle’s trip to the LNER Stadium ended in heartbreak as Lincoln City claimed a 3-2 victory in a lively League One encounter.
The game opened with a thunderbolt in the 6th minute when Tom Bayliss fired Lincoln ahead from distance, setting the tone for a fierce battle. Plymouth enjoyed more of the ball, but Lincoln were ruthless in front of goal. James Collins doubled the lead just before the hour mark, tucking away from close range, before keeping his cool from the penalty spot six minutes later to make it 3-0.
Argyle refused to fold. Owen Oseni sparked hope in the 78th minute, finishing smartly after Xavier Amaechi’s clever pass. Two minutes later, Amaechi himself struck, guiding in Bali Mumba’s corner to bring the score to 3-2.
The fightback, however, was cut short when English-Ghanaian defender Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu was dismissed for a second yellow card on 86 minutes. Reduced to ten men, Plymouth could not find the equaliser despite late pressure.
The Pilgrims now turn their focus to Leyton Orient on August 19, still chasing consistency.
