Liverpool manager Arne Slot has condemned the racial abuse against Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo during the opening match of the 2025/26 English Premier League on Friday night.
In the game played at Anfield, Semenyo had reported the moment he was abused to the referee, leading to the invitation of the technical heads of the two sides.
After the short break, the match continued with Liverpool cruising to a 4-2 win at the end of the contest.
Speaking after the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot described the incident as unacceptable.
He applauded Antoine Semenyo for continuing the match and putting up a top performance.
"It's unacceptable in every football stadium, let alone at Anfield...big credits to him if something happens like this and you can perform so well in the second half,” Slot said.
Semenyo, 25, after his abuse, scored a second-half brace to begin the season on a positive note.
He will be key for the Black Stars in September when the national team assembles for the next round of games in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
