The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has extended appreciation to MTN Ghana for continuously supporting football in the country and cushioning the organisation of the FA Cup competition.
The telecommunications giants have, since the 2010/2011 football season, supported the FA Cup competition, and it has grown from year to year to become one of the most exciting football competitions in the country.
Beyond supporting the FA Cup, MTN Ghana has now signed a contract with the Ghana Football Association to sponsor the Black Stars and other national teams with a bumper sum of $2 million.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, GFA President Kurt Okraku expressed his full praise for MTN for investing in Ghanaian football and extended his appreciation to the telecom giant.
“Since the 2010/2011 football season, MTN has stuck with the FA, believed in its leadership, and believed in the vision of offering opportunities to the youth of our country. You have continuously supported this unique platformâthis project, this productâcalled the FA Cup. Thank you,” the GFA President said.
He continued, “Beyond the FA Cup, MTN Ghana came on board in the period leading to our last appearance at the World Cup, partnering with the Football Association and the Ministry of Sports. This partnership ensured that the Black Stars qualified for the Mundial in Qatar. This was significant, especially given the fact that Ghana did not make it in 2018. Clearly, this partnership played a big part in our determination to make it to the Mundial, for which reason we are grateful.”
