GFA approves new Media and Marketing Regulations to boost domestic competitions
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the Media and Marketing Regulation 2025, set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season. The new regulation will apply to all GFA-sanctioned competitions, including the Ghana Premier League, Access Bank Division One League, Malta Guinness Womens Premier League, MTN FA Cup, Womens FA Cup, and lower-tier leagues under the Regional Football Associations (RFAs).This regulatory framework is designed to protect and enhance the commercial value and visibility of Ghanaian football by clearly defining ownership and use of media and marketing rights. While it will be fully enforced in the top-tier competitions, its implementation in the RFA leagues will be gradual. The regulation sets out the GFAs rights over key assets such as marketing, branding, media content, data, ticketing, and other associated elements. It also outlines the responsibilities of clubs in supporting the Associations media and marketing activities, aimed at improving the image and appeal of the competitions.Additionally, the new guidelines prohibit unauthorised third-party activities, including ambush marketing, and grant the GFA legal authority to act against breaches. The Media and Marketing Regulation will be made available to all clubs and published on the GFAs official website in the coming days. This development forms part of the Associations broader strategy to professionalise and commercialise football in Ghana, ensuring both the sports integrity and its long-term financial sustainability.
