Four months after rainstorm ripped off the roof of the Lambussie Community Senior High School (LCSHS) in the Lambussie District in the Upper West Region, the school is still yet to be re-roofed.
However, Mr Ireneous Basingbie Naawulie, the District Chief Executive (DCE), who confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred in April 2025, said, “very soon it will be worked on. Plans and processes are far advanced.”
The severe storm affected parts of the E-Block structure, the headmaster’s office among other structures and properties of the school.
The LCSHS was the first Community Day SHS commissioned in November 2016 by President John Dramani Mahama, and one of the eight flagship educational projects undertaken in the Upper West region.
Even though the GNA on April 30, 2025, published a report on the ripped off roof to draw attention of stakeholders to the urgent need to fix the roof, the school is still left unroofed.
Mr Sulemana Haruna Sumaila, the Headmaster of the school, said management had to relocate students from the affected classrooms to other areas for continues academic activities.
He said the disaster was reported to the DCE, and Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo, the Member of Parliament for the area for redress.
Mr Sumaila added that same was reported to the District, Regional and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and the Minister of Education “for his attention and necessary action.”
Some students who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity, expressed worry about the situation and appealed to authorities to re-roof the school and restore it to its former glory.
They said the dangling roofing sheets on the building posed threat to them, especially when wind blew saying, “It’s dangerous, these broken sheets could hurt any of us here when wind blows,” a student said.
