MultiChoice Ghana says it is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation.
It said the company appreciated the recent appreciation of the Cedi against the dollar, which “we have never referred to as a fluke.”
Mr Alex Okyere, Managing Director, MultiChoice Ghana, in a statement, said it was regrettable that the Minister had taken the stance to suspend the company’s license, notwithstanding the ongoing endeavours to engage with the Minister candidly and in good faith on this important matter.
Mr Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations on Friday August 1, 2025 issued a stern ultimatum to DSTV, warning that the broadcaster’s licence would be suspended by Wednesday, August 7, 2025 should it fail to reduce its subscription prices in Ghana in line with regulatory expectations.?
It said in an effort to arrive at a?resolution, MultiChoice had made a proposal to the Minister and the National Communications Authority (“the NCA”) on an alternative further engagement?avenue.
The statement said having operated in Ghana for 30 plus years, “we value our employees, contract staff, dealers, installers, agents, and retailers in Ghana.”?
It said they were mindful of the dire implications that an impasse might have on their livelihoods, and assured stakeholders that of their commitment to working together with the Minister and the NCA to resolve this matter.
“MultiChoice values its subscribers and endeavours at all times to keep DStv?subscription fees as low as possible, despite the extremely challenging?competitive and macro-economic environment in which we operate, without?compromising on customer choice and the quality of the services we offer,” it added.?
MultiChoice remained committed to constructive engagement with the?Minister and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in?
Ghana and trusts that the authorities would do likewise.
