Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, has officially launched the fifth edition of the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair (ECSMF), scheduled to take place from September 1–5, 2025, at Jackson Park in Koforidua.
The fair on the theme: “Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair: Shaping the Future of Agricultural Industrialization Through Strategic Investment,” aims to promote agribusiness development and showcase value-added agricultural products aligned with national policy priorities.
Addressing participants at the launch, Mrs. Awatey emphasised the need for strategic partnerships, market-led production, and industrial-scale investment.
“The future of agriculture is no longer in small, scattered efforts. It lies in strategic partnerships, market-led production, technology adoption, and industrial-scale investment,” she said.
She assured stakeholders of her office’s commitment to scaling up the satellite market model, improving rural infrastructure, and attracting investment to transform the region into an agro-industrial hub.
Hajia Habiba Yusifu, Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture, described the fair as a platform for actors in the agricultural value chain to explore modern marketing strategies, value addition, and access to financing.
“It is a testament to our region’s investment potentials and a step towards achieving food security and economic prosperity,” she said.
She commended Municipal and District Directors of Agriculture for their role in sustaining the initiative and acknowledged partners such as TIAST Group, World Food Programme, YARA Ghana, Legal Crop Improvement Centre, and Joy Dadi Industries for their continued support.
Mr. Stephen Boadi, Eastern Regional President of the Conference of District Directors of Agriculture, urged other regions to replicate the ECSMF model to boost agricultural marketing nationwide.
He highlighted global population growth projections, from 8.2 billion in 2025 to 10.3 billion by the mid-2080s, as a call to intensify efforts to meet future food demands and reduce post-harvest losses.
