The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), in an effort to promote inclusive education, has refurbished the ICT Centre at Dzorwulu Special School and donated brand-new computers to support ICT education.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Accra, GSE managing director Ms. Abena Amoah stated this donation represents the core tenet of GSE’s belief in empowerment through opportunity.
“At GSE, we believe education is a powerful tool for empowerment and no child should be left behind. By investing in the ICT Centre of Dzorwulu Special School, we are ensuring that students with special needs have access to the resources and skills required to thrive in today’s digital world,” she said.
According to her, the donation aims to empower students with special needs with digital skills for the future. The initiative also reflects GSE’s commitment to social responsibility and inclusive development.
Valued at over GH¢157,000, the donation is a crucial investment in making education a fair playing field. Staff of GSE also demonstrated personal generosity by contributing groceries to support the school.
While receiving the donation, Headmaster-Dzorwulu Special School Frederick Tetteh expressed profound thanks for the support, which he said will be transformative.
“We are deeply grateful to Ghana Stock Exchange for this generous support. The refurbishment of our ICT Centre and donation of computers will go a long way in transforming the way our students learn and interact with technology. The groceries and bottled water from staff also demonstrate genuine care for the wellbeing of our children.”
According to him, this generous gesture has transformed the school’s capacity for ICT education by providing special students with access to modern technology that is often taken for granted elsewhere. He emphasised that the upgrade will enhance teaching methodologies and open new worlds of interaction and learning for the children.
The project underscores GSE’s broader mission to support national development and give back to society, from which it operates. The importance of this focus on inclusive education, especially by investing in ICT to ensure every child has the tools to build a brighter future, cannot be overstated.
However, GSE expressed commitment to continuous support for the school and pledged to prioritise initiatives that impact lives and support national development beyond the financial market.
Established in November 1990, Ghana Stock Exchange provides a platform for trading securities – granting Ghanaian companies access to patient capital and investment for national economic development. It also facilitates the mobilisation of capital by corporate bodies and government.
